Nanih Waiya DAR Donates to Library

The Nanih Waiya Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently gave a $150.00 gift to the Winston County Library to purchase genealogy books. Librarian Beth Edwards (Center) is pictured with two of the books purchased so far with the gift. DAR Regent, Susan Clark (left) and Pam Kirk, Vice Regent (right) said “We are so pleased to be able to present this money to our library to further support of the Louis Taunton Genealogy Room!”

Local Author's Donation Aids Library in Book Purchases

When William McCully (left) published his book Murder In Rural Hill: The Tragic Tale of Miss Janie Sharp and Swinton Permenter, this past year, he donated a portion of his proceeds to the Winston County Library. Librarian Beth Edwards (right) is shown here, with Mr. McCully, and some of the books purchased with his gift. “We would never have been able to purchase these volumes without William’s gift to the library,” said Edwards. “I’m especially proud of the new Mississippi Encyclopedia, which has just been released and is a $70 book. It will be featured at the Mississippi Book Festival in Jackson next month. I can’t thank William and his wife Tracy enough for their on-going support of the library.”

Local Artist Donates to Library

Local ceramist, Susan Clark, has donated three pieces of her artwork to the Winston County Library. Her first piece, “Night At The Gallery”, is located in the Louis Taunton Genealogy Room and is quite a large piece. It depicts guests at a gallery party featuring a bust of Mississippi author Eudora Welty. The other two pieces are located in the Children’s room – whimsical replicas of “The Wizard of Oz” and “Alice In Wonderland”. “I encourage everyone to come and see these incredible pieces of art.” Said librarian Beth Edwards.  “ Susan is known nationwide for her work and has a great reputation in the art world. We are very fortunate to have her here in Winston County. She also does an art program for teens every summer for the library.”
