Winston County Library Expands Hours Available to the Public

The Mid-MS Regional Library System is excited to announce the hours at the Winston County Library will be expanding for the public starting May 3. Library guests will be able to visit the library Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. With these expanded hours, library patrons will have more time to perform research for school, search for a job, explore the genealogy room, or simply browse the collection.

“We are happy to be able to expand our hours of operation to better meet the needs of our community,” said Winston County Librarian, Beth Edwards. “We know our patrons have busy schedules, and we want to do everything we can to make sure they are able to stop by the library when it is convenient for them.”

The library is also available 24/7 online at midmisslib.com where patrons can download free e-books, audiobooks, stream movies or TV shows, get free online tutoring via Brainfuse HelpNow, or use one of our many databases.

For more information, call or visit your local branch library, or the library’s website at www.midmisslib.com. All library services are made possible thanks to the continued financial support of our local elected officials.

Winston County Friends of the Library Organization Receives Margaret Murray Grant

The Winston County Friends of the Library organization was recently named the recipient of the 2021 Margaret Murray Grant. Sponsored by the local Friends of the Libraries chapters, the Margaret Murray Grant advances Mississippi public library literacy efforts through programming, collection development, and activities. The Friends of the Library group will use the $500 grant to enhance and expand the Winston County Library children’s book collection by purchasing new interactive books known as Wonderbooks.

Wonderbooks are printed books with a ready-to-play audiobook inside. Kids can press play to have their favorite book read to them while they follow along, developing their reading and comprehension skills alongside a parent, grandparent, sibling, or on their own. These books also feature “learning mode,” a fun and educational question and answer session about the book.

“Wonderbooks inspire kids to read and teach parents how to dialogue with their child about the book,” said Theresa Bridges, President of the Winston County Friends of the Library. “Research shows that hearing and seeing words at the same time can improve reading success. Statistics show that being read to 3 times a week increases test scores to the top 25%.”

To learn more about Wonderbooks or about becoming a member of the Winston County Friends of the Library organization, please visit or call (662-773-3212) the Winston County Library.
